A current Upon Noble School pupil has been scouted to play for Yeovil Town Football Club, writes Sarah Parnell. Morris Moore, aged 11, was selected for a six-week trial at Yeovil Town FC Youth Team last summer and has now been signed.

Morris, who had only started playing football three year’s previously, was spotted by Yeovil Town FC at a week long football course held by Millfield School during the summer holidays. Millfield offers a range of sports courses throughout the various school holidays with the opportunity of potentially being scouted. Previous to attending Millfield’s summer course, Morris had played football for Bruton United FC

Yeovil Town FC trains its Youth Team in all positions so that they are well rounded and gain plenty of vital experience. Training, which takes place three to four times a week, means that Morris’s fitness has improved extensively, despite not being given a strict nutrition plan by the club. There are matches most weekends — Morris played in Exeter on 13th March, for example. Through the academy Morris is able to watch first teams with subsidised entry. He was once allowed onto the pitch to kick a ball around during half time.

Despite the intense training, Morris still finds the time and commitment to continue cross-country running in the Mendip League. In fact, his training at Yeovil Town FC has resulted in improvements to his running and he finished fourth and fifth respectively in his last two runs.

Morris belongs to a horsey family and he rides on occasions although he has to be careful and has been warned by Yeovil Town FC not to break anything.

“Morris would like to be a professional football player,” says his mother Vanessa Moore. “Despite this he is keeping up with his studies as he is very academic. He is realistic and he knows that there is plenty of competition out there when it comes to football.”

Morris admits to enjoying every minute with Yeovil Town FC. Vanessa says that everyone at Yeovil has been welcoming and helpful. “Morris gets on with everyone. The other children are all in the same boat as they come from surrounding counties, many people from down south, to play for Yeovil,” she says.

Apparently Morris’s biggest fan is his puppy, Trevor, as well as Colin, the family’s Jack Russell. “Trevor is a terrier cross Dachshund puppy who came from the village. He and Morris are inseparable, and Colin always joins them too,” smiles Vanessa.
