Almost 30 villagers, together with three dogs and two ponies, headed to Alfred’s Tower on Sunday 12 June to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. Read Agri provided the transport, which included a trailer decorated in Union Flags. This dropped passengers at the Druley Hill entrance to the Stourhead woods that lead up to the tower, after which it was either a case of walk, ride or bike, depending on which mode of transport you had chosen for the day.

At the tower itself, with the rain holding off, everyone enjoyed their own picnics and played rounders before heading back to the trailer for a trip back to the village hall.

It was certainly a day everyone who took part in will remember,” said Upton Noble resident Andrew Fuller. “Gill did a brilliant job of organising it, and even provided some bubbly to mark the occasion. I wouldn’t have missed it for anything.”
