Bus users in Somerset are being urged to have their say on proposed changes to routes and concessionary fares.

Somerset County Council is currently running two separate consultations due to close on Monday 11 January 2016.

The first of these identifies possible changes to a number of subsidised bus routes. The second concerns changes to the County Council’s discretionary bus pass policy.

Anyone who uses public transport in Somerset is urged to take part in the consultations and have their say.

The results of both consultations will be considered before any decisions are made.

You can complete the consultations online at www.somerset.gov.uk/bussubsidysurvey and www.somerset.gov.uk/concessionaryfareconsultation. Printed versions are also available. You can phone Somerset Direct on 0300 123 2224 for more information

Additionally, Bus Users UK, which champions the rights of bus and coach users, has been running Your Bus Matters events to highlight the proposed cuts.

The events will be held on:

Wednesday 16 December at Taunton bus station

Friday 18 December at Yeovil bus station

Saturday 19 December at Frome Market (Market Yard Frome)

Anyone affected by the proposed changes can attend and have their say as well as complete the consultation documents.

“It’s so important that we all do what we can to protect rural bus services,” says Natacha Tagholm, deputy director of Bus Users (www.bususers.org).
