SOMERSET boasts more than 6,000km of public rights of way, including footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and Byways Open to All Traffic. In and around Upton Noble we have plenty of paths where people can walk, cycle or ride their horse, enjoying our beautiful countryside and appreciating our abundant wildlife and plant and tree species at the same time.

Now Somerset County Council is launching its new Adopt-a-Path scheme. To adopt one in this area it couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is go online or fill in the form on the attached pdf, informing the council of the area/parish in which you would like to adopt the path. You will then be given details of your local co-ordinator and any requested tools or gloves for path clearing will be loaned to you.

What you can do for the scheme

· Walk a path or ride/cycle a bridleway as often as possible

· Report any problems to the council or your local Adopt-a-Path co-ordinator

· Help with cutting back vegetation from signs, stiles and gates

· Promote the responsible use of the path

What will the council do to help?

· Offer help and advice with rights of way questions

· Provide cover under its insurance policy

· Loan tools and gloves for the work
